THINGS TO WATCH FOR WHEN BURNING ISO, DMG AND OTHER IMAGES If you burn an iso image in PC, click on recording options and make sure the sector size [blocking] is set to 2048, which is a standard 'mode 1' cdrom. Some apps [like Recordnow] may not choose this size by default, and you will end up with a cd that can't be read. If you burn an image in Mac, do not mount the downloaded image. It will still work the same, but extra hidden items and new icon placements will be added to the image and it will no longer be an exact byte for byte copy of the original. Also, if you close the window that opens by default then unmount the image, you will cause desktop.db/df to be updated in the image, and your cd will no longer open the default window. You can correct this behaviour by remounting the image, opening the default window, which for Mac OS X is the 'Welcome to Mac OS X' folder in the root directory, closing the root directory window then unmounting the image and burning it again. Icon placements may still be different though, depending on what default folder view arrangement is chosen in finder. MAC DMG FORMAT The dmg format is only correctly understood by OS X. To burn a dmg you must have OS X and Toast 6. You may end up in a 'catch 22' if you download the OS X operating system in dmg format. If you don't have access to a Mac with OS X and a cd burner already on it, then you won't be able to do anything with the images.
