Historical Facts:
On July 16, 1933 the first stake of Grand Coulee Dam was driven in. The dam
brings electricity to 11 western states and irrigation to over 500,000 acres of farmland
in the Columbia Basin. It is the 3rd largest producer of electricity in the world.
The first water that went over the dam was on June 1, 1942.
Economical Facts:
Many community members in Grand Coulee work in occupations related to the Dam, and
other Government agencies. Recreation is also a part of Grand Coulee's economy.
