Plants
One of the goals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was to document the many new plants that they would find on their trip for scientific research. They collected specimens of many of these plants and wrote detailed descriptions of them in their journals.

Land
One goal of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was to describe and map the land that they would be traveling in. This was a difficult job but when they were done, for the first time, there were detailed maps of the western territories.

Animals
One of the goals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was to document the many new animals that they would find on their journey. They kept detailed descriptions in their journals and even drew sketches of some of the animals that they encountered.

Native
Americans
One goal of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was to establish relationships with the Indians that they would encounter on their journey. Very little was known about the many different tribes in the Western Territories before this journey. Their detailed descriptions of Indian customs and life was important for future travelers in the West. |
